U'S Role in Foreign Affairs

My personal opinion on whether or not the United States should be involved in other countries decisions and problems is based on financial reasons. In the past, many countries have benefited from the U.S aid and support greatly. However, they benefited in such a way, that it was costing the U.s more and more money. During the Vietnam war, our country agreed to assist the French in overthrowing Ho Chi Minh's government. Much of France's effort to overthrow this government was of course, financed by the United States. In 1950, after North Korea invaded South Korea the secretary of state persuaded Truman to increase the U.S assistance to the french effort in Vietnam By 1954, the U.S. was paying 80 percent of the financial cost of the war against the Viet Minh. Later, the French in Vietnam faced military defeat at Dienbienphu, and the French once again, asked the U.S. to contribute air and naval power. The need for the assistance of the U.S was greatly supported and recognized because of the amount of money contributed during the Vietnam War. I do not feel it is right for our country to get involved in other countries problem when it comes to how much money is being spent and lost to a country who fails in such ways to support themselves, and be dependent on their country for help. That is my personal opinion. Simply because, a war is not meant to include other outside parties, which often leads to more hate and confusion.

  1. Good post. I like how you went into detail with the history in your article. I completely agree with your statement that a "war is not meant to include other outside parties, which often leads to more hate and confusion."

    Good job :)
